As many as 110 nomination forms have been collected to vie for the posts of president and general secretary in the upcoming council of BNP’s student front Jatiyatabadi Chattra Dal (JCD).
This was revealed by JCD office secretary of the last committee Abdus Sattar after BNP closed the two-day from distribution programme on at the party Nayapaltan office on Sunday (Aug 18).
The final list of candidates will be published on Sept 2.
Earlier on Aug 13, BNP announced fresh date for the sixth council of the JCD, to be held on Sept 14, to pick its new leadership.
On Jun 3, BNP announced that a new JCD leadership would be formed within the next 45 days.
The party said students of the educational institution in Bangladesh, who have cleared SSC or its equivalent examinations after 2000, are eligible to vie for the election.
The announcement on age-limit subsequently sparked protest among the leaders of the recently-dissolved JCD committee and the staged demonstrations in front of the party's Nayapaltan office demanding to revoke the age-limit.
On Jun 22, the aggrieved leaders announced to continue their movement until their demand for either formation of a new short-term committee or the removal of age limit is met.
On the next day, BNP announced that the JCD council for new leadership would be held on Jul 15.
The last committee of the BNP' student wing was formed on Oct 14, 2014, with Rajib Ahsan as its president and Akramul Hasan as general secretary.
