The Eleventh National Elections will be an all-inclusive one, says Awami League chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The last parliamentary polls of 2014 were marred by the BNP-led alliance's violent protest and boycott over the demand for a polls-time caretaker government.
They now demand a ‘non-party polls-time administration’, but are yet to make clear on participating the polls with party chief and former prime minister Khaleda Zia in jail for corruption.
The ruling Awami League has made it clear that the elections will be held under the current administration.
On Thursday, the Awami League’s parliamentary party held a meeting with party chief and Leader of the House Hasina in the chair.
Several Awami League leaders, who attended the meeting, told Bangla Tribune that the party chief hinted that the BNP will not boycott the polls this time.
“The upcoming election will be an all-inclusive and competitive one. All political parties will take part.” they quoted Hasina saying.
According to them, the party chief also warned reserved women MP of overstepping the local MPs’s authorities as well as on feuds between existing MPs and aspirants.
“I have received reports of women MP’s unnecessarily intervening on matters in their constituencies,” the sources quoted Hasina saying.
On the feuds between MPs and local party leaders, she said that the both of them have the right to campaign in their constituencies, but should not lock in to a blame game and highlight the government’s development initiatives to the people.
According to sources at the meeting, Hasina said that existing MPs should keep in mind that the party leadership is considering new faces.
“A lot of new faces will get the party’s ticket. We will nominate based on popularity. But everyone has to work for the party’s candidate,” the prime minister was quoted saying.
