BNP files 2018 financial statement to EC

FILE PHOTO/Syed Zakir HossainBangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has submitted the audited report on its financial statement of 2018 calendar year to the Election Commission (EC), showing a surplus for the third consecutive year since 2016.
According to the report, BNP earned TK 98.7 million and spent Tk 37.3 million during the period, showing a surplus of Tk 61.4 million
BNP Joint Secretary General Moazzem Hossain Alal handed over the report to Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Alamgir at the EC's Agargaon offices in Dhaka on Tuesday (Jul 30).
Speaking to the media after filing the report, Alal said, "Sale of nomination forms dominates the party's sources of income in addition to the workers' donation.
"Election, financial assistance to the oppressed activists, and relief for the flood-hit people, among others, are the fields of the party's expenditure," he added.
In 2017, BNP earned TK 94.6 million and spent Tk 41.9 million while its audited report showed Tk 41.4 million in income and 40 million in expenditure.
The party, however, faced a deficit of Tk 1.4 million in 2015 as it earned Tk 17.3 million and spent 18.7 million during that period.
According to the Representation of the People Order, 1972 (ROP), a political party registered under the RPO is obliged to submit its financial statement of the previous calendar year by each Jul 31.
If any political party fails to do so for three consecutive years, the EC can cancel the registration of the party as per the RPO.
