Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad is not on life support but oxygen support, clarified the party’s acting chief GM Quader.
“He was having trouble breathing due to lung infection and hence the doctors put him on oxygen support,” he told the media on Tuesday (Jul 2).
His remarks came after Health Minister Zahid Maleque told the media on Monday (Jul 1) that Ershad’s condition was critical and he was on life support.
Saying that the former military dictator’s health condition has remained unchanged, he added that Ershad was responding to the doctors and relatives.
“He can open his eyes but can’t speak,” he said.
Quader said that he has to undergo a few more tests but the doctors think that his condition remaining unchanged is a positive sign.
He called on everyone to rely on JP statements or ISPR information to avoid any confusion regarding Ershad’s condition.
The 89-year-old former envoy to the prime minister was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital Intensive Care Unit on Jun 26.
His health was improving on Saturday (Jun 29) but it worsened on Sunday (Jun 30).
