Within a span of one and a half months, GM Quader, has been appointed acting chairman of Jatiya Party (JP) for a second time by ailing chairman, HM Ershad.
However, pro Rowshan supporters are unhappy with this decision. They expect Ershad’s opinion to change.
However, JP moderates say that faced with health complications, Ershad may not change decision.
Pro Rowshan supporters feel that their position in the party is strong and most workers are with them so if there’s a council, GM Quader will not be able to be able to retain the post of chairman.
Pro Rowshan presidium member, Fakhrul Imam, said, “Why would a decision be made so late at night?”
Whether making GM Quader chairman will be beneficial for the party or not will be revealed in time, said another member.
A party member close to GM Quader said: “Prior to the 2014 election, Ershad asked all to withdraw nomination which many disregarded but GM Quader did as his elder brother asked.”
GM Quader was awarded for being obedient, added the party member.
It’s believed there aren’t too many people who are willing to accept GM Quader as chairman.
JP presidium member and former army official Masud Uddin Chowdhury said: “Earlier, GM Quader was the acting chairman and then was removed by Ershad and was reinstated; Sir (Ershad) is unwell but he is in sound mind so I don’t think he will change his decision.”
On 4 May last, Ershad declared that due to illness party activities are being hampered and until further notice, GM Quader would serve as acting chairman.
