The government is looting taxpayers’ money in the name of budget, turning a Tk 10 billion project into a Tk 100 billion mega project.
BNP standing committee member, Dr Abdul Moin Khan, made the searing comment, Thursday, after paying tribute at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
BNP workers and leaders place wreath at the grave of party`s founder Ziaur Rahman. He was accompanied by recently declared leaders of different thana committees of the capital.

He said: "I do not want to comment on the budget before it is presented; let it be proposed first; then we will give our reaction, if necessary.”
Saying that the current government has no right to formulate the country’s budget, he fumed: “the Padma Bridge project, which was a Tk 80 billion venture at the beginning, has turned into a Tk. 350 billion project today; It’ won’t be a surprise if it becomes a Tk. 500 billion one at the end.”
Terming the proposed budget ‘low’ in quality and ‘fake’, he warned that this (budget) will exploit the masses and won’t bring any benefits for Bangladesh.
Talking about the budget during BNP’s tenure, which was Tk 600 billion and comparing it with the current budget of 4600 billion, Dr Khan asked: who is ‘pocketing’ the Tk 4000 billion?
“People cannot raise this question today due to the oppression of the government. But in future, these questions will surely be raised.”
Expressing grievance, the former minister said that the police and the administration, loyal to the current regime, are not allowing BNP to work in a normal democratic environment.
“Thousands of BNP activists are in jail after being implicated in fabricated cases.”
