BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf HossainReferring to the recent oath taking of Jahidur Rahman, who won the Thakurgaon-3 seat in the Dec 30 polls, BNP leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said it won’t hurt the BNP.

The standing committee member of BNP termed Rahman’s oath defying the party decision as ‘sad’.

“BNP is like a Banyan tree and a couple of fallen leaves doesn’t make any difference,” he said on Saturday (Apr 27) during a program at the capital.

When asked the BNP MP’s decision to take oath, the former minister said, “Similar incidents happened in the past as well. After the death of Ziaur Rahman, powerful ministers of the president’s cabinet and leaders like Huda and Matin tried to break the party apart.”

“But their attempts went in vain,” he said adding, “Similar attempts were made during one eleven."

Hossain said that the party will take steps against such defiance according to its charter.

“However, it won’t hurt the party,” he added.
