The BNP has come down hard on the government claiming that its party chief was being mistreated by the prison authorities.
“She has fallen severely ill as the authorities kept her in a 200-year-old building,” said Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Rizvi claimed that the food provided to her is sub-standard. “You know, how much they spend on iftar for a three times prime minister — Tk 39!”
The government has imprisoned Khaleda in an effort to hold a voter-less election, he said before adding “The people are waiting to see another farcical election, just like the one in 2014.”
Demanding the party chief’s immediate release, The BNP leader said, “She had undergone an eye surgery recently and the dusty, old jail house is severely harmful for her. Besides that, she suffers from pain in hands and legs and there’s the frequent power cut.”
