The people expected Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina to discuss Teesta water sharing issue during her India visit, says the BNP.
“We have been hearing for 10 years that Awami League is in power, so Teesta treaty will be signed, but it’s yet to happen,” Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday.
Speaking at an iftar party in Dhaka, he said, “We want a good relation with India based on mutual interest. It is not our duty to give up our interest to fulfill other’s intention.”
She (Prime Minster) claims herself as the most popular leader, so why does she not talk about the problem of the country?”
Mirza Fakhrul said, “We have to speak about the problem of the country and solve it. People are regularly shot dead in the India-Bangladesh border, which has not stopped. You (Prime Minister) speak about, people want it.”
Speaking on Rohingya issues, the BNP leader said, “We should have pressured India and China to solve Rohingya crisis at the very beginning, because they support Myanmar.”
Expressing concern over upcoming Gazipur city polls, he said, “We have seen the Khulna city polls. It’s clear now what kind of election will be held there.”
