Singer Shafin Ahmed of band Miles has collected nomination form to contest the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral by-polls on the Jatiya Party (JP) ticket.
“Shafin collected the form the JP’s Banani central offices in the city on Monday (Jan 28),” party chief HM Ershad’s Deputy Press Secretary Khandakar Delwar Jalali told Bangla Tribune.
Jalali said as many as two forms for the mayoral post and 29 others for councillors have been sold to potential candidates on Monday.
Besides, a form for the reserved seat for women has been distributed, he added.
Along with Shafin, businessman Hasibul Islam Joy also collected nomination form to contest the by-polls on JP ticket.
JP Dhaka Metro North unit Office Secretary Anisur Rahman Khokon sold the nomination forms to the candidates.
Sale of the forms started forms on Sunday (Jan 27) while the deadline for the distribution and submission end at 2pm on Tuesday (Jan 29).
The DNCC election will be held on Feb 28, for which the candidates will have to submit nomination papers by Jan 30, the Election Commission announced on Jan 24.
The nomination forms will be scrutinized on Feb 2, while the candidates will have till Feb 9 to withdraw their candidacies.
