BNP has instructed its candidates, who contested the 11th Parliamentary Election with ‘paddy sheaf’ symbol, to stand by party activists who were injured in polls violence.
On Thursday (Jan 3), the party handed two separated letters, containing instructions, to the candidates at a meeting at its chairperson’s Gulshan offices.
“We received two letters and act upon the party’s instructions,” Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury, who attended the meeting, told Bangla Tribune.
Chowdhury ran on the BNP’s ticket at the Sylhet-3 constituency.
The letters, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, also asked the candidates to report to the party on the Dec 30 election in eight different categories.
In one letter, instruction has been given to help the family of activists who were killed by ruling party or miscreants ahead and after the election and to arrange proper treatment.
Candidates also asked to help the party activists who lost properties as they became victims of arson attack, vandalism and lootings.
BNP also instructed candidates to look after all party supporters whom police either sued or arrested during the election.
In another letter, the BNP issued eight instructions that include preparing ‘illustrated reports’ by the candidates for their respective areas on ruling party men’s violence, and vote rigging and irregularities.
The candidates have been asked to file the report to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakharul Islam Alamgir at its Naya Paltan office within seven days.
The report will contain images of polls-violence victims and details on their losses.
List of ‘paddy sheaf’ candidates’ polling agents and coordinators who were beaten and ousted from the polling stations on the voting day or faced arrest will also be prepared.
