The Awami League has slammed the BNP-Jatiya Oikya Front alliance saying that the opposition has taken a stand against the people’s decision by boycotting and demanding a rescheduling of polls.
“We completely reject Oikya Front’s decision to boycott the polls and their demand of polls rescheduling,” AL Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman said during a media briefing on Monday (Dec 31) at the party chief’s office in Dhanmondi.
He said that the opposition alliance’s demands were irrational and called for them to recall their statement.
Otherwise, the people will once more give them a fitting reply for going against the people’s decision, he added.
Rahman said that through the Dec 30 polls, the people have defeated the communal forces of war criminals and Jammat-e-Islami.
“We are overwhelmed that the people of Bangladesh are on the path of truth, and on the side of independence, secular politics and united under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.”
He reiterated that party president and fourth time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed them refrain from victory celebrations and added, ‘We will offer our prayers at the Masjids, temples and churches today. The peaceful election has put everyone’s anxieties to rest and people can breathe free.”
The AL leader thanked everyone related to the election and congratulated the voters saying that their victory was a result of Hasina’s popularity and her contribution to the unimaginable development of the country.
