The Jatiya Oikya Front has taken a decision to be present on the field on the day of the election on Dec 30. Oikya Front leaders have encouraged the masses to go to the polling centre and resist any obstruction by the ruling Awami League.
Leading leaders of Oikya Front told Bangla Tribune, “We are asking voters to remain at the centres to counter any manipulation.”
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that in the last few days, a few thousand activists were arrested.
The government wants empty polling stations, he said.
He also alleged that for the last few days, 350 to 500 activists were arrested every day and tortured.
Two BNP leaders in Dhaka said, from the election-day morning, responsible people will take position at the centre and every polling centre will be under vigilance.
The decision has been taken to inform of any suspicious activity in a polling centre.
An unsupported source says that the obstruction placed before BNP in carrying out campaigning actually worked in favour of improving the party’s image.
The attacks on several BNP high commands like Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Moyeen Khan, Habibur Rahman and others have been placed before diplomats posted in Bangladesh.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told journalists, “The government has already faced a moral defeat.”
Slating the Election Commission (EC) for its ‘biased’ role so far, BNP vice chairman, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, hoped that the EC would be neutral in the coming days.
