The ruling Awami League has warned that their archrival BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami may carry out terror acts, anarchy and violence across the country on Friday.
“AL has information that BNP-Jamaat alliance is hatching conspiracy ahead of the national election,” AL leader Akteruzzaman told media after meeting the Election Commission on Thursday (Dec 27).
“BNP-Jamaat may make videos by setting fake voting booths and printing fake ballot papers,” said Akteruzzaman.
Prior to that, an AL delegation, led by Akteruzzaman, met with the EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed and submitted a written complaint on the BNP-Jamaat alliance’s possible violence.
Akteruzzaman said, “Attacks on AL and Grand Alliance activists continue at different parts of the country. They themselves carry out violence and then they complained (against AL) to the EC. They are spreading propaganda in the media.”
The AL leader informed the media that as many as 40 leaders and activists were injured over the past 24 hours, 10 AL polls offices were vandalised and another seven others were torched.
Akteruzzaman said they sought updates from the EC secretary on its’ actions on their previous complaints against BNP and their allies.
Quoting the EC secretary, the AL leader said the EC has instructed the authorities concerned to act upon investigation.
“The EC will let us know the details later,” said Akteruzzaman.
