Blaming the administration of completing all arrangements to oust the Jatiya Oikya Front from the polls, the opposition coalition’s leader Dr Kamal Hossain said they are now counting on the people’s vote.
“It’s apparent that all possible measures have been taken to push out the Oikya Front from the national election,” he said in a written statement which was read out during a media call at the alliance’s Naya Paltan offices on Wednesday (Dec 26).
In the statement, read out by Gano Forum Presidium member Zaglul Haider Afrik, Dr Kamal said that the administration, judiciary, law enforcers, Awami League goons as well as the Election Commission have joined hands against the opposition candidates.
“At this point, the people’s vote is our hope. The voters never made a mistake in the past and they never will,” said Dr Kamal.
According to him, if the people are able to exercise their franchises on Election Day, “no one can foil Oikya Front’s victory”.
Dr Kamal said that the police force, which raised arms against the Pakistani forces on the night of Mar 25, 1971, is now playing the role of “ruling party cadres and attacking opposition candidates and leaders, including those of the Oikya Front.”
“Some members of the police force are acting like beasts. The chief election commissioner responded indecently when we sought his intervention forcing the Jatiya Oikya Front leaders to walk out of the meeting. And over enthusiastic Awami League leaders are making misleading statements in front of the media,” said the Oikya Front leader.
