Hours after opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front and BNP briefed the Election Commission on the attacks on its activists, ruling Awami League has now blamed its arch-rival and the alliance for trying to foil the upcoming national polls.
“BNP and Oikya Front are talking nonsense and their movement and activities indicate they are trying to foil the polls,” AL leader Aktaruzzama told the media on Tuesday (Dec 25).
Prior to that, an AL delegation, led by Aktaruzzama met the EC at the latter's office in the city’s Agargaon on Tuesday evening.
Emerging from the meeting, Aktaruzzama said, “They (BNP and Oikya Front) are upset and unstable. They aren’t speaking right.
“Sometimes they say they won’t quit polls. Later, they again say they don’t know whether they can go to the polls,” he said.
The AL leader blamed BNP and Oikya Front for plotting to spread propaganda for creating ‘chaos’ ahead of the election.
Claiming five of AL men were killed in pre-polls violence, Aktaruzzama said, “BNP has failed to disclose evidence on their allegations, which it’s bringing against the AL.”
Referring to the Tuesday’s seizure of 180 million from the city’s Motijheel, he said, “We are concerned and have urged the EC to act upon.”
The delegation briefed the EC about the attacks on AL activists during polls campaign at different parts of the country.
“The EC assured us of acting upon,” Aktaruzzama informed.
The AL leader said they requested the EC to allow journalists to ply motorbikes during the polls.
“EC will take measures after discussing with the administration,” Aktaruzzama said.
