BNP-JamaatAfter intense negotiations with BNP, Jamaat had to accept 22 seats in the end. However, BNP has agreed to allow Jamaat to compete independently in two seats outside the alliance nominations.
Due to BNP’s inflexible stance, three seats, Rabiul Bashar for Shatkhira-3, Fariduddin Chowdhury of Sylhet-5 and Habibur Rahman for Sylhet-6 had to be compromised.
Jamaat’s naebe ameer, professor Golam Parwar, told Bangla Tribune, “We lobbied but had to be satisfied with 22.”
Jamaat has been told that these three seats could not be spared at the request of acting BNP chairman Tarique Rahman.
Meanwhile, Jamaat will give two independent candidates with consent from BNP.
In 2008, Jamaat lost seats in Chapai-3, Rajhsahi-3, Sirajganj-4, Jhinaidah-3, Meherpur-1, while in 2001, they lost seats in Chattogram-15 then Chattogram-14.
Jamaat’s leader, Golam Parwar, told Bangla Tribune, “We are trying to increase the number of seats and may reach a solution by later afternoon.”
