BNP Chief Khaleda Zia will be out of prison on Jan 2, two days after polls day on Dec 30, claimed Oikya Front leader and Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury.
“We don’t want any pity for her. She will be free as soon as she receives a fair trial,” he told the media on Friday (Dec 7) at a discussion meeting on how questionable polls will affect democracy.
Criticizing the government’s claims of bringing about massive developments, he said, “Their development is the development of yaba and extrajudicial killing.”
Zafrullah added that the common people are not as ignorant as the government thinks.
“There is no doubt there have been developments. As per your affidavits in 2008 your (Sheikh Hasina) assets were worth Tk 31.9 million but today its Tk 72.2 million,” he said.
“You (Sheikh Hasina) say that growth will increase by 10 percent. You will take the number of rich people in the country from 250 to thousands. Who do you see as part of the growth?” he asked.
Known to be a pro-BNP intellectual, Zafrullah added that Hasina’s income has doubled while Khaleda’s has come down to half.
He said that all of the government’s attempts to win the polls with the tagline of development will definitely fail.
Addressing the Oikya Front leaders, Zafrullah said that it’s their duty to ensure that common people are able to cast their franchise. He also called for them to give up any thought of boycotting the elections.
Saying that the incumbent government’s end is almost near, he expressed confidence that Oikya Front will surely win the polls slated for Dec 30.
