Bikalpa Dhara Manna to compete against JSD’s Rab in Laxmipur-4

Major Mannan with the final nomination papers for Bikalpa DharaJatiya Oikya Front leader and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) President ASM Abdur Rab will be going up against Awami League ally Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh Secretary General Abdul Mannan in the Laxmipur-4 constituency.
On Friday (Dec 7) Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader handed over the nomination letter to Mannan who will be contesting the Dec 30 polls under the electoral symbol of boat.
“We have secured nomination for three seats and hope to secure a few more,” Mannan told Bangla Tribune.
The final nominations of parties in the AL led Grand Alliance was also handed over on Friday at the party’s Dhanmondi office where AQM Badruddoza led Bikalpa Dhara Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury’s nomination letter was also given.
Quader said that the AL allies who are contesting the polls under the boat symbol have been given 60 seats including the Worker’s Party which have been given 5 seats, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD)- 3, Bikalpa Dhara led Juktafront-3, JP (Manju)-2 and JSD (Ambiya)-1 seat.
Moreover, former military dictator HM Ershad led Jatiya Party will contest the polls in 40-42 constituencies with their symbol ‘plough.’
Saying that the nomination for the other allies might be finalized by tonight, the road transport and bridges minister added, “This is all the seats we can share. If they want to run for more seats, they will have to do so under their own symbol.”
Quader said that the final list of nominations will be sent to the Election Commission (EC) by Dec 8.
The ruling party started handing out nominations to multiple candidates from the same constituency since Nov 25 but is now selecting the final candidates. Among the 281 aspiring to contest the polls under the boat, three nominations have been scrapped.
The 11th National Elections are slated for Dec 30, with Dec 9 as the last date to pull out of the race.
