While the BNP-led alliance has been opposing the use the EVM, its leader Andaleeve Rahman Partho has said he wants Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in his constituency.
Partho, also the chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party, has written to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) seeking EVMs in Vola-1 seat. He also expressed his willingness to bear all expenses which may be needed to setup the digital voting system.
“Although the 20-party Alliance and the Jatiya Oikya Front is against the use of EVMs, I’m strongly urging to introduce EVM voting in the sadar seat as the people of Vola want to vote using EVMs,” said Partho in his letter.
“It will be unfair to the Vola people if they are deprived of their expectations of EVMs.” he added.
He sought a response from the election commission by Dec 2.
Partho also said, “The local Awami League leader cannot, in principle, be against EVMs given their party is in favour of introducing it.”
He even hinted to move the court if EVM is not granted for his seat.
Partho has submitted his nomination papers for Vola-1 and Dhaka-17.
