Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker has announced to contest the upcoming general election from his native Kurigram as an independent candidate.
“I have decided to run from Kurigram-4 constituency on behalf of the people. I am heading to Kurigram tomorrow (Thursday) to start the process,” he told Bangla Tribune on Wednesday (Nov 21).
A former activist of the ruling party’s student front, Imran made the announcement earlied in the day on the social media.
“... my area is subjected to development inequality and the previous public representatives failed to do their duties properly” he wrote in a Facebook post.
He also said poverty was on the rise in Kurigram-4, which consists of Roumari, Char Rajibpur and Chilmari Upazilas, as no new jobs have been created there.
Born on Oct 14, 1983, Imran came to the spotlight after the Ganajagaran Mancha movement started in February 2013 to demand capital punishment for war criminals.
The Rangpur Medical College graduate was involved with the Bangladesh Chhatra League during his days there.
Ganajagaran Mancha organiser made Imran its spokesperson when he joined the movement as the convenor of the Blogger and Online Activist Network.
