In Thakurgaon -1, the main discussion is about who will get the nomination from the party. This has happened as 11 persons are vying to get the nomination.
Form BNP, Mirza Fakhrul, will be the candidate. So far, the speculation was that from AL, presidium member and MP of the last two tenures, Ramesh Chandra Saha, may be given the nomination. However, there are reports of division.
Among the AL nomination seekers are: current MP Ramesh Chandra Sen, zilla AL general secretary Muhammad Sadek Quraishi, former upazila women’s vice chairman, Tahmina Akhtar, diplomat Shahedul Islam, zila AL joint president, Maqbul Hossain babu, city AL president, Arunanghsu Dutta, former AL student leader Raziur Reza Khokon, zila AL law affairs secretary, Indranath Roy and others.
With so many nomination seekers, an internal feud has taken shape.Grass root level workers claim that after being elected, Ramaesh Chandra promoted some known corrupt people, thus alienating AL workers.
However, upazila AL’s general secretary Mosharul Islam, says: “Ramesh Chandr has broken all previous records of development in Thajurgaon.”
Another nomination seeker, Arunanhsho Dutta, says: the current MP has become aged and there’s a demand from grassroots for a change.”
Meanwhile, BNP leader, Mirza Faisal Amin, says: “this goes to show how divided AL is in Thajurgaon-1.”
Thakurgaon-1 has 4 lakh 21 thousand 662 voters and has one municipality plus 21 unions.
