Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed briefs the media after a meeting between the Commission and a delegation of Jatiya Oikya Front at the EC office in the city on Monday (Nov 5). FOCUS BANGLAThe Election Commission (EC) has its eyes on the talks between the government and the Jatiya Oikya Front and its outcome will reflect in the schedule for the general election, says EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
His remarks came on Monday after an Oikya Front delegation met the Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and the four election commissioners.
“They have informed us about the talks. The commission said it has a meeting scheduled for Nov 8, where it will weigh outcomes of the talks on Nov 7. But it’s yet to be decided whether the polls schedule will be deferred,” said Secretary Ahmed, who attended the talks.
On the calls for troops in polls, he said that the EC told the Oikya Front representatives that a decision on that will be taken after the announcement of polls schedule.
“The delegation urged for not using EVMs. The Commission told them it will be used on a limited scale. But details like at which centres are yet to be finalised,” said Ahmed.
The commission has agreed with Oikya Front over security for polling agents and announcing of the results, added the EC secretary.
