Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury at Ganobhaban on Friday (Nov 2).

Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President and Jukto Front chief Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury wants to see the incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina retaining office in the upcoming polls, sources say.

He has also expressed his desire to see his son Mahi B Chowdhury as a Member of Parliament (MP).

Chowdhury expressed his views in a conversation with the prime minister during Friday’s (Nov 2) talks between Awami League led 14-party Alliance and Jukta Front, according to people aware of the conversation.

After presenting their demands, B Chowdhury told the AL chief Sheikh Hasina, “Honorable Prime Minister, we want to see Awami League win a majority in the polls once again. We want to see you retain the premiership in the upcoming parliament of which we can be a part as well,” said an Awami League leader on condition of anonymity.

In response, Hasina said, “Participate in the polls and come to the Parliament. We will extend our support  if there’s anything for us to do.”

Bikalpa Dhara was quoted as saying “I am too old to participate in the election. However, I created an alternative leadership which will contest in the polls and we are looking forward to your cooperation.”

Hasina remained silent, according to the ruling party leader.

Sources present at the dialogue said that Mr Chowdhury referred to Mahi B Chowdhury as the future leader of his party as he is the organizing secretary of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB).
