The new political coalition Jatiya Oikya Front is not a platform to support any specific party or political figure, says its leader Dr Kamal Hossain.
“There’s no option to perceive the Oikya Front initiative as a move to back the Jamaat-e-Islami or any political figure, including BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman,” he told a media briefing on Monday.
After weeks of talks and intense negotiations, the BNP, Gano Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, ASM Abdur Rab’s Jatiya Samajtantrik Dala (JSD) and Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s Nagorik Oikya formally launched the alliance on Oct 13, just months before the general election.
“The Jatiya Oikya Front has floated seven-point demands and the only affiliation among the parties in the coalition is to achieve those demands,” Kamal Hossain told the Gano Forum-organised media call at the National Press Club.
“Those who have been badmouthing about us, I want to send them the clear message that I have no intention to run in the polls or have no desire for any designation. My mission is to install a democratic and secular state,” said the senior lawyer.
