Govt destroying level playing field: BNPA senior BNP leader has blamed the government for destroying the level playing field ahead of the 11th parliamentary election, likely to be held in late December.
“The government is intentionally destroying the level playing field in the election,” BNP National Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed said on Saturday (Oct 6).
Speaking at a programme in the city, Ahmed said, “The government is doing everything it can to disrupt a congenial atmosphere for the polls.”
Ahmed claimed that all political parties can express their views and call progamme, except the BNP. “Rather the ruling party followed a policy to exclude BNP from the national polls.”
Ahmed, who served as a deputy prime minister and vice president of military dictator HM Ershad’s regime, also came down hard on the government over the Digital Security Act, saying, “Police have been given unlimited power under Section 47 of the Act.”
“Enactment of the law ahead of the polls is meant to stifle the media,” he added.
