Phantom cases are being filed against BNP activists to keep the party out of polls, party General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged.
His remarks came during a media call at BNP party office at the capital’s Nayapaltan on Saturday (Oct 6).
Fakhrul said, “The government is employing all sorts of evil strategies to keep the BNP out of polls.”
“Over 4,149 phantom cases have been filed from Sept 1 to Oct 5 and more than 86,692 BNP activists are named in these cases. Over 276,277 have been named as unidentified accused while at least 4684 have been arrested and 247 remanded so far,” he added.
Fakhrul also alleged that the government is trying to expedite the trial process of false cases against senior leaders.
“Their goal is to keep the key leaders out of polls,” said Fakhrul.
