BNP`s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. File PhotoSenior BNP leader, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, came down hard on the government for accusing top leaders of the party of subversive activities.
“The government feels threatened by us; they are blinded by the love of their office,” he said while talking to the media on Tuesday (Oct 2) at the party’s headquarters in Naya Paltan.
According to him, the accusations are baseless and part of the ruling party’s plan to tip the scales in their favour in the upcoming national elections so they can cling on to power longer.
“The government has become more virulent and vengeful since our rally,” he added.
Arresting scores of BNP activists during the rally was not enough, the government has now waged a vendetta against 55 top BNP leaders including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and six members of its policymaking National Standing Committee, said Rizvi.
The police are always ready with trumped-up charges which they apply against BNP activists when the ‘situation’ demands,” the senior politician lashed out.
On a different note, he censured the prime minister’s Information and communication technology adviser, Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s recently published Facebook status, asking “How can he question the integrity of editors who have been in this line of work for so long? Does he or the government have any integrity?”
