Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has described Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda as a Baksal (a political platform floated as the national party of Bangladesh on 24 Feb 1975) type spokesperson.

He made the remark during a media call at BNP party headquarters in the capital on Friday (Sept 28).

Responding to the CEC’s remarks on BNP’s registration will be at risk if they don’t participate in polls, the party’s senior joint secretary general Rizvi said, “This is the same Nurul Huda, who created the Janatar Mancha when he was Cumilla’s DC. He vandalised Khaleda Zia’s images.”

“His time in close connection with those in power has made him an absolute Baksal type spokesperson,” he added.

Rizvi also said, “The CEC is saying these so that BNP participates under Sheikh Hasina’s one-party Baksal-style election. He sounds like, he is using all his capacity to arrange rigged polls.”

Rizvi said that their party’s registration is not dependent on papers but it’s in people’s hand.

“CEC does not consider holding a free-fair election to be his duty, he only cares about showing allegiance for the Awami League Regime,” Rizvi alleged.

The BNP leader said, “Over 4,000 phantom cases have been filed against BNP since Sept 1 and more than 84,000 BNP activists are named in these cases. Over 266,000 have been named as unidentified accused while at least 4292 have been arrested.”

“A total of 350,741 have been made accused in these cases,” Rizvi added.

Responding to a query Rizvi said, “We sought permission to hold a rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan.”

“We are okay if we get the permission to hold the rally on Sept 30. but BNP won’t postpone the date any further,” he added.
