According to people familiar to the matter, the initiative is now at its final stage while a separate coalition of lawyers is also on the process.

Speaking to Bangla Tribune, several Supreme Court lawyers said that a view exchange meeting among professionals will be held at the city’s Diploma Engineers’ Institute where on Wednesday (Sept 26) and Dr Kamal, a senior lawyer, will chair the meeting.

“A call for a larger professionals’ alliance is likely to come from the meeting,” said Subrata Chowdhury, who heads a lawyer’s body styled the ‘Gonotantrik Ainjibi Samiti’ (Democratic Lawyers’ Association).

According to Chowdhury, if the call is not made at least the process to form a professionals’ unity will come to forefront.

“Talks are underway to form a unity among the top court lawyers, which will be formed after Wednesday’s meeting,” said Chowdhury.

Admitting the effort to form a separate platform of lawyers, Supreme Court Bar Association President Zainul Abedin said that a meeting has been called for Tuesday (Sept 25), a day before the meeting to be chaired by Dr Kamal.

Pro-BNP lawyer Abedin, who serves as a vice president of the party, declined to provide details.
