BNP has finally decided to go to all pre-election campaigns led by Gano Forum President Dr. Kamal Hossain. A formal declaration may come soon about a grand political alliance.

Sources say that the effort to form a big political platform opposing the government is on the verge of materialising.

It’s known that Dr. Kamal Hossain had several meetings with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the last few weeks.

After Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment, relations between Dr. Kamal and BNP has burgeoned, say political observers.

Dr. Kamal told Bangla Tribune: “After reading Khaleda Zia’s case verdict, I will provide counsel.”

When Khaleda got bail by the Supreme Court, he had said: “We need regular bails in such cases.”

“Judiciary applies neutral justice and everyone must understand the importance of an independent judiciary.”

On Sept 11, Dr. Kamal underlined the physical condition of Khaleda Zia and stressed the importance of granting her proper treatment.

Two days before Eid ul Azha, BNP gave ten points demand to Dr. Kamal.

According to sources, BNP has adopted four resolutions: Person who will lead the party during polls, the politician to spearhead the electoral movement and protests, post/portfolio distribution if party is in government and the main leadership of the party.

Sources say that main leadership will be with Tarique Rahman and the party will go to polls under the leadership of Dr. Khondokar Mosharraf or Mirza Fakhrul.

The electoral campaign plus movement will be led by Dr. Kamal Hossain.

If government is formed, then the head will also be Dr. Kamal Hossain.

If BNP keeps Dr. Kamal at the lead and sidelines Badruddoza Chowdhury then Bikalpa Dhara may secede from the grand alliance.

Mahi B Chowdhury, joint secretary general of Bikalpa Dhara, told Bangla Tribune: “Bikalpa Dhara will never join any alliance which includes Jamaat.”

On the other hand, a BNP standing committee source says: “BNP will give a proposal about election time government and a press conference in this regard may be held this month.”

Gono Forum’s Executive President Subrata Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune: “Dr. Kamal believes in joint leadership and wants to move forward with others.”
