Zonayed-SakiIt will be difficult for the political parties to agree on a polls-time government with the incumbent prime minister in office, says Gonoshonghoti Andolon convener Zonayed Saki.

“Political parties lack credibility amongst each other. We all saw the consequence of the BNP administration’s decision to increase retirement age for top court judges so that KM Hasan could be the chief advisor during the 2006 elections,” Saki said.

He made the remarks during a media briefing at the capital’s press club on Thursday (Sept 13).
Political crisis will continue until there’s there’s ‘a constitutional reform’, according to Saki.
The Gonoshonghoti Andolon leader said he believes that effort and productive dialogue between all the political parties, expect for the Jamaat-e-Islami can resolve the crisis.
“A huge crisis prevails regarding political procedures. From what we see, the current situation will ultimately lead to a conflict. The parties need to come to terms with a few conditions if they want to move towards a democratic future” he added.
A regime which tries to cling on to power will never never be able bring out a consensus regarding the polls-time administration.
“We need a balanced and accountable system of power if we are to overcome the political crisis that the country is currently undergoing,” said Saki.
Asked whether the Election Commission needs to be reformed, he said “It’s not tough for the government to reform the election commission.”
