With the 11th parliamentary nearing, ruling Awami League has started its full swing campaign to create the level playing field.
As the nation celebrates Eid-ul-Azha, AL leaders have mobilised their campaign strength keeping an eye on the next general election.
As per the Constitution, the next general election must be held within the period of 90 days prior to the date of expiration of incumbent government. Tenure of AL government will expire on Jan 28, 2019.
Sources at AL said that the party started its polls campaign since 15 teams of its central leaders started organisational visits across Bangladesh on Jan 26.
Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina also asked the possible party nomination seekers to go to their respective areas and started campaigning.
She also instructed them to celebrate Eid with the party men at their constituencies and highlight the government’s development activities.
When asked Pabna-3 constituency lawmaker Mokbul Hossain told Bangla Tribune that the Prime Minister instructed them to go to their respective area and to stay beside the general people.
Hossain left for his constituency prior to Eid-ul-Azha and began the campaign.
The lawmaker has celebrated the Eid with local AL leaders and activists and planned to stay for a few more days to continue his campaign.
Dinajpur-2 lawmaker Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury went to his area before the Eid and returned to Dhaka afterwards.
Chowdhury, who is the organising secretary of AL, left Dhaka for Dinajpur soon after offering Eid prayer and exchanging Eid greetings with the prime minister on Wednesday (Aus 21).
“Our polls preparation is progressing. The party president had already called the grass-root leaders to Dhaka and given them instructions. We will follow up with the instructions,” Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune over mobile phone on Thursday afternoon.
“Besides, our (party) candidates are running campaign at their respective areas. They did so during the Eid and it will continue,” said Chowdhury.
Lawmaker Muhammad Faruk Khan went to his constituency on a four-day visit and returned to the capital to celebrate the Eid.
“We always a pro-election political party... Our polls campaign is continuing and will intensify in the coming days,” said Khan, who is a presidium member of AL.
