Family and relatives have arranged Qurbani on behalf of jailed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Three sacrificial animals including a cow and two goats were slaughtered at her Gulshan residence on Wednesday morning after consulting with her elder son Tareque Zia who now lives in London, Khaleda’s Personal Secretary Abdus Sattar told Bangla Tribune.
Sarmila Rahman Sithi, the wife of Khaleda’s younger son late Arafat Rahman Coco, supervised the arrangement.
Khaleda has been staying at the Old Central Jail on the city’s Nazimuddin road since Feb 8 this year after a court sentenced her to separate jail-terms in two graft cases.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, Islamic scholar Maulana Zafrullah said, “It is obligatory to all capable person to sacrifice animal even though s(he) is absent at the time or stays behind bars.”
“The family or relatives can arrange on behalf of that person,” said Zafrullah.
A delegation of Khaleda’s family met her at the jail on Wednesday afternoon but was not allowed to take food from outside including home-made foods.
