JMB operative ‘Boma Mizan’ held in India

Zahidul Islam alias Boma Mizan. Times of IndiaZahidul Islam alias 'Boma Mizan', the deadly Jamaa'tul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) bomber, has been arrested from the Indian city of Bangalore, reports local media.

Citing sources in the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Times of India reported on Tuesday that he was arrested on Monday from the Karnataka state in connection with the January 2018 Bodh Gaya blast in Bihar and the 2014 blast in West Bengal’s Burdwan.

Boma Mizan was one of the four terrorists freed by JMB operatives from a prison van in the 2014 highway ambush on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.

One of the four freed was later killed in a shootout with police.

Bangladesh Police said they were aware about the arrest. A senior counterterrorism officer told Bangla Tribune that the NIA is yet to officially inform them.

Times of India says, Mizan was arrested following tip-off the sleuths got from two persons arrested in Kerala on Sunday.

Abdul Karim alias Chhota, 19, and Mustafizur Rehman alias Tuhin alias Shahin, 37, was arrested from a camp of migrant labourers in the state’s Malappuram district.

“Searches were conducted at the hideouts of these two accused and incriminating material including circuit design of IED has been recovered by the NIA team,” said a statement issued by the NIA.

Quoting sources, the Times of India report said Mizan had visited Malappuram several times and made the arrangements for the stay of other accused. He is an expert in bomb-making.

NIA has recovered circuits for making bombs, explosives, diagram, laptops and mobile phones.

The blast in Bodh Gaya was believed to be in retaliation for the killings of Rohingya Muslims by the Buddhists in Myanmar.
