A general view of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. BANGLA TRIBUNE/file photoThe High Court has issued a rule asking the government to explain why it should not be ordered to take actions against four police officers including the superintendent of Cox’s Bazar police on charges of selling around 1 million yaba pills to drug traders.
Home secretary, inspector general of police, director general of the Directorate of Narcotics Control and deputy inspector general of police in Chittagong have been told to respond in four weeks.
The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal issued the rule on Monday after hearing a plea filed by lawyer Abul Kalam Azad.
The petition sought the court’s order for departmental measures and suspension of four police officers for their involvement in dealing with methamphetamine-based yaba.
The four officers are Superintendent of Police AKM Iqbal Hossain, Inspector Monirul Islam, Sub-inspector of Kamal Hossain and Teknaf Police OC.
