Renowned photographer and social activist Shahidul Alam has been taken away from his home by unidentified men.

Alam, the founder of photography agency Drik and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, was picked up from his Dhanmondi home around 10:30pm on Sunday.

“People identifying themselves as law enforces took him away from his home on Dhanmondi Road 9/A,” said Tanvir Murad Tapu told Bangla Tribune.

Saydia Gulrukh, one of the directors of Drik, told Bangla Tribune that they live on the 2nd floor of the building while Alam resides on the 3rd floor.

“Around 10:30pm, we heard a scramming and rushed to the ground floor. We found that the gatekeepers frightened, and CCTV and intercom broken.”

“The gatekeepers told us that 30 to 35 people, riding 12 to 13 cars picked up Alam,” said Gulrukh before adding “We informed the Dhanmondi police.”

Police said they are looking into it.

“The family alleged that some people picked up Alam from his house, process to file a general diary is underway, we are looking into the matter,” Dhanmondi police SI Mahidul Islam told Bangla Tribune.

The award-winning photographer was picked up a day after he was assaulted while capturing photos of the ongoing students’ protests and his camera was vandalised in Dhanmondi area.
