Bus owners support students' demands

Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association’s Secretary General Khandaker Enayet Ullah was addressing a media briefing at Mohakhali Terminal on Friday (Aug 3).Transport owners support the student movement for safe road but, it would not operate till the security situation is improved in the city.
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association’s Secretary General Khandaker Enayet Ullah said, "We support the ongoing student movement. But we have no security on the road.”
More than 400 vehicles have been vandalized, so far and we will not operate in this situation, he said.
He made the remarks at a press conference at Mohakhali Terminal on Friday afternoon ( Aug 3).
Pointing out that it is not their formal programme, he said, “When we feel secure, we will resume our services.”
He said, “We instructed everybody to abide by the rules.”
Welcoming the new transport act, he said, “We will accept any punishment given under the existing laws.”
On July 29, two college students Dia Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib lost their lives on Airport Road where they were ran over by a Jabale Noor Tranbsport bus.
The accident triggered a massive student protest that is still going on for the six straight days.
They are demanding for safe road and punishment for those who responsible behind the youths’ untimely death.
Meanwhile, transport workers called a sudden strike on Friday causing sufferings to common people.
