At least 30 Bangladeshis died of coronavirus in US

At least 30 Bangladeshis, including Manabzamin photojournalist Hai Swapan, have died from coronavirus infection in the United States (US).

Most of the deceased were residents of New York, reported Somoy News, RTV, and Independent Television. 

According to RTV, in the last 24 hours, seven Bangladeshis including Hai Swapan, died of the deadly coronavirus in New York, USA.

Worldometer in its live update last night showed the number of active coronavirus cases in New York currently stands at 61,674 with 1,342 deaths. Till now 67,325 people have tested positive for Covid-19 there.

"Swapan breathed his last at 10:45pm (BST) on Monday night," said Md Abdul Matin to Dhaka Tribune, being the older brother of the deceased who is currently in New York.

"My brother was suffering from kidney complications for quite some time. Recently he tested positive for Covid-19.

"However, doctors here have yet to confirm that my brother died due to coronavirus infection or because of his other health complications," he added.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) till Tuesday confirmed 51 coronavirus cases in Bangladesh.

Covid-19 has so far led to the deaths of over 39,000 people in more than 200 countries and territories, including five in Bangladesh.
