DGHS Director Md Habibur Rahman made the statement while addressing a daily online press conference on the coronavirus situation from Dhaka's Mohakhali on Monday (Mar 30).
Besides, he also said the PCR machines are being installed in Mymensingh and Rajshahi, while tests will begin in Barisal, Khulna and Sylhet within a week.
At the same press conference, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora warned that people should not think that they are risk-free at the moment as the country reported no new deaths or new cases in the previous two days (Saturday and Sunday).
She said, "We came to know many people went outside from their homes yesterday [Sunday] which is very risky [for them and others]."
"It is a global crisis. We cannot term the situation risk free till we continue our effort and unless the infection rate goes down to zero across the world," she added.
On Monday, the institute reported one more person has been infected with coronavirus in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the number of confirmed cases to 49.
Bangladesh so far recorded five deaths from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The fast-spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has claimed 34,007 lives and infected 724,336 people across the world till 2:30pm on Monday, according to Worldometer.
More than 152,065 people have recovered from the virus infection which has spread to 199 countries and territories.
