Md Sohel Ahmed, 50, who hailed from Sylhet district, died early Sunday (Mar 29) while undergoing treatment at a London hospital.

Sohel's relative Md Abdul Halim, a resident of Moulvibazar, confirmed the news of death on Sunday night.

Sohel along with his family had been living in London for long, Halim said.

"He [Sohel] was admitted to the hospital with fever and respiratory problems several days ago. Later, he was diagnosed with Covid-19 there and breathed his last around 7am on Sunday [BST]," Halim added.

A pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO), the fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has claimed more than 33,900 lives and infected over 722,000 people across the world till date, according to Worldometer.

More than 151,000 people have recovered from the virus which has spread to 199 countries and territories around the world.

As of Monday, Bangladesh has so far recorded five deaths and 48 infections from Covid-19.
