Ensure journo-law enforcers remain protected: HC

A general view of the Supreme Court building of Bangladesh. File Photo/Sazzad HossainThe High Court (HC) ordered all media and law enforcement agencies to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment to their respective employees on duty amid current the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bench of Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir gave the order after hearing a petition on Wednesday (Mar 25).
The court also hoped that all electronic and print media, as well as the law enforcing agencies, will supply the materials at their own cost without delay.
On Monday (Mar 23), lawyer JR Khan Robin filed the writ in public interest .
The secretaries to the home, health, public administration, social welfare and the information ministries along with the Bangladesh Press Councilchairman, Bangladesh Press Institute director general, inspector general of police, director of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research and authority of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh were made respondents.
The writ also sought direction from HC to increase diagnostic facilities, quarantine and medical support amid the fear of national disaster due to the novel coronavirus.
