Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken special initiative to protect the city dwellers from Covid-19, a new strain of coronavirus, infection.

DMP Commissioner MD Shafiqul Islam gave directives through a statement to spray germicide using water canon in all areas of Dhaka Metropolitan twice daily starting from Wednesday (Mar 25).

The eight water cannons of DMP will spread the germicide in the eight crime divisions, firstly, from 10am to 12pm and later, from 4pm to 6pm. This will continue till the next orders.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter.

All city dwellers have been requested to support DMP in this initiative.

Bangladesh recorded five deaths and 39 infections from the Covid-19 pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has claimed more than 18,800 lives and infected over 422,600 people across the world till date, according to Worldometer.

More than 108,000 people have recovered from the virus which has spread to 196 countries.
