Even single franchise cast means elections are participatory, said Election Commission Senior Secretary Md Alamgir.
Like other countries our Constitution does not provision for a specific turnout to validate polls, he told the media at the Commission headquarters on Saturday (Mar 21).
“The active participation of the candidates is a participatory election,” he added and said that citizens cannot be forced to vote.
Responding to a query on including the minimum voter turnout in election regulation, he said, “That’s up to the Parliament and government.”
Alamgir added that the EC postponed all polls until further notice including the Chattogram City Corporation polls, Jashore-6 and Bogura-1 by-polls considering the health risks of citizens due to the fast-spreading coronavirus.
