Yearlong celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman commenced Tuesday in Australia through a formal ceremony at the Chancery, despite restrictions on large gathering due to outbreak of Coronavirus.
High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Australia Mohammad Sufiur Rahmanalong with members of Bangladesh diaspora formally launched the “Mujib Year” by flying balloons carrying individually decorated characters of Mujib Year.
A booklet prepared for Mujib Year titled- Mujib: the architect of Bangladesh was released, says a press release of the High Commission.
An exhibition of rare photos of Bangabandhu- has been arranged at the Ouderland Library of the Chancery for display throughout the year.
The photos have been so organized to allow a spectator to appreciate the emergence of Bangabandhu as a leader, struggle of the Bangalees for respect and dignity under his stewardship, Liberation War fought with the great leader being inspiration for the freedom fighters, and fast global recognition in the comity of nations. It also has photographs of Bangabandhu as a family man.
The High Commission organised painting competitions in Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane in association with various Bangla Schools a week ahead in those cities with the theme “Bangabandhu and Bangladesh”.
Idea was to involve the children and to make them aware of the life and contribution of Bangabandhu.The best awarded paintings are also exhibited at the Chancery.
At the discussion session, High Commissioner Sufiur Rahman stated that a culturally vibrant, socially inclusive and advancing, and economically strong Bangladesh is fast securing respect globally under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina. This clearly validates that the dream of the great leader on a Sonar Bangla was correct and very much attainable.
