National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) A probe committee has found negligence of duty by five doctors at the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) in preserving and protecting instruments and equipment, including the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The accused doctors are Dr AMM Shariful Alam, Professor Dr Obaidullah Baki, Dr Moarraf Hossain, Dr Manosh Kumar Bashu and Dr Farhad Halim.
However, the High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Md Mustafizur Rahman expressed dissatisfaction over the probe report submitted before it on Sunday (Feb 16), as it made no mention of the actions to be taken against the respective doctors.
It also asked the probe committee to submit the full report before it within a week, mentioning the actions to be taken in this regard.
The HC bench came up with the order after probe committee, led by Additional Secretary of Health Ministry Md Sirajul Islam, submitted the report before the HC as per its earlier directive.
On Jan 3, the HC bench issued a rule on a suo moto move asking the authorities concerned to explain why the negligence at the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) should not be declared illegal.
The court on Thursday also directed the government to suspend the retirement facilities of the outgoing director of NICRH Prof Dr Md Mosharraf Hossen for negligence in preserving and protecting equipments including that of the ICU at the hospital until getting court clearance.
The court also ordered the health secretary and director general of Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) to form a committee to conduct an enquiry into the allegations of negligence of NICRH authorities in purchasing and preserving the treatment equipment for the hospital. They were instructed to submit the probe report within 30 days.
