There are accusations of corruption and malfeasance against the first secretary (labour) Jilal Hossain, stationed at the Bangladesh high commission in Brunei.
Though he is entrusted with the duty of looking after the welfare of expatriate workers, Jilal is reportedly engaged in unscrupulous manpower trade.
He faces a litany of allegations, ranging from charging extra money for labour registration to the misappropriation of Tk 16 million in the name of producing a design for the high commission building.The complaints are being probed by the ministry of expatriate welfare and overseas employment and ACC. Investigation by ACC has revealed that Jilal has accumulated huge amount of wealth earned through unfair means.

ACC and the ministry have identified Md Abu Nayeem, an interpreter of the labour wing of the embassy as Jilal’s accomplice. Abu Nayeem has a rape allegation in Dhaka with an arrest warrant.
Reportedly, Jilal and Nayeem take $ 500 for clearance of each worker in Brunei though the official rate is $ 15 only. Jilal is also accused of taking bribes in exchange for arranging tourist visas for Bangladeshis wanting to visit Brunei.
His properties include: flat worth Tk 30 million in Gulshan 2, residential plot in uttara, two flats in Monsurabad in Chattogram, land in Keraniganj, huge land in Faridpur, apartment trade in Malaysia and Singapore etc.
