A new horizon opens for local airlines’ in Japan

Japan will grant Bangladesh the fifth freedom facility under which the local airlines will be able to take passengers from other countries to Japan. A decision in this regard was taken at a Bangladesh-Japan bilateral agreement.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has said that following a bilateral meeting held on Jan 29, possibilities of new flights have emerged.

To facilitate civil aviation between Bangladesh and Japan, the aeronautical authorities of two countries have taken some important decisions.

As part of that, any airlines from Bangladesh can operate passenger and cargo flights to all airports in Japan except Haneda.

Japan has also given fifth freedom facility under which, local airlines will able to take passengers to Narita airport in Tokyo form any airport in the world except China and also bring passengers from Tokyo.

Biman CEO Md Mokabbir Hossain said, “We need to carry out some formalities to start a flight and after we get authorization from the government, we can apply for a slot in Japan; in addition, General Sales Agent (GSA) has to be appointed to Japan and once these are done, we can start the flights.”
