The mayor-elects of the Dhaka North and South cities have said that they will remove all campaigning materials, including posters within three days.
Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, who has won the race in Dhaka South, told a media call at his campaign headquarters on Sunday (Feb 2) that all posters would go by the next day.
“All posters and campaign materials will be pulled off from areas under my jurisdiction by Monday (Feb 3),” he said.
Thanking residents for electing him, Taposh, however, said he expected the voter turnout to be higher.
He also pledged to work for everyone, irrespective of their political affiliations.
North city's mayor-elect Atiqul Islam, however, said it would take him three days to remove campaign materials.
“We will work together to remove the posters as soon as possible,” he said while addressing the media call at his campaign office in Banani earlier in the day.
Paper and plastics from the posters will be separated and recycled, he added.
Balloting in the Dhaka city polls was held on Saturday (Feb 1) amid the thin presence of voters. The Election Commission has said a little over 29 percent votes were casted.
Ruling Awami League mayoral candidates Atiqul and Taposh have won a landslide victory.
In the North, Atiqul bagged 447,211 votes while his nearest rival BNP's Tabith fetched 264,161 votes.
Taposh pulled 424,595 votes while BNP's Ishraque Hossain followed with 236,512 votes.
According to the unofficial counts from all 1,150 polling centres in Dhaka South City polls, Taposh got 424,595 votes while his nearest rival Ishraque Hossain of BNP managed 236,512 votes.
