New city wards cast votes in festive atmosphere

The newly added wards to Dhaka North and South city corporations cast their votes for the first time amid festive atmosphere.
In a spot visit to the areas such as Demra, Kazla, Rayer Bag and other wards on Saturday (Feb 1), it was seen that voters lined up to exercise their rights to franchise.
Sixty-year old Anowara Begum, who is a voter of South’s ward-65 cast her vote at Shamsul Hoque Khan School and College centre in Matuail.
She said that voting through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) was easy and she had no trouble voting for her candidate.
Ward-63 member Aslam Hossain and Tofazzel Hossain went to vote along with their family members.
A councillor aspirant for ward-65, Shamsuddin Bhuiyan Sentu said that he is familiar with the locals and didn’t expect any problems to arise.
Reserved seat for women councillor aspirant for wards 64, 65 and 66 Monira Chowdhury said the elections were “amicable” and the environment was festive.
A similar polls environment was observed, at ward-46 Shamsul Haque Khan School and College, ward 66, Dagir Daruchanat Fazil Madrasa, ward 66, Siddiq-e-Akbar Institute, Notun Para Adarsha High School, ward 64 New Hijaj Adarsha High School, ward-64 Shamim Sikder Standard School and College, ward-63, Council High School , Matuail Adarsha High School, Matuail Paschimpara Government Primary School and Capital Ideal School and College.
